My Rating:
Blurb From Goodreads:
When she’s sent to a crime scene and finds her second dead woman in as many weeks, half-banshee detective Kiera “Mac” McLoughlin is convinced a serial killer is on the loose. Incubi are extinct, her boss insists. But what else can kill a woman in the throes of pleasure? When her partner is murdered after using witchcraft to locate the killer and Mac is thrown off the case, her frustration turns to desperation.
Certain the killer is an incubus, Mac works behind her department’s back to chase down slim, sometimes perilous leads. While the killer eludes her, she does discover handsome Aidan Byrne, an investigative counterpart from the enigmatic Otherworlder Enforcement Agency. Mac typically runs her investigations fast and hard, but with Aidan at her side, she’s running this one “hot” as well. But Aidan knows more than he’s letting on—something that could shatter their blazing romance and add Mac to the killer’s growing body count…
My Review:
Banshee Charmer combines urban fantasy, paranormal romance, and investigation genres into a quick, entertaining, and successful novella. Kiera “Mac” is a cop (and a half-banshee) who investigates paranormal crimes and she is pretty good at her job. However, when Mac comes across a case implicating a race thought to be extinct, the job gets tougher, women keep dying, and even Mac herself may be in danger.
Banshee Charmer is not the longest novel ever, it is pretty short, but the story is complete and I really enjoyed reading this one. I really like the world and the main heroine, Mac, as well as the intriguing and handsome Aidan. There are many races of paranormal beings in Banshee Charmer, and they are all a part of the human world. The paranormal cop/ investigation story line is a good setting for the characters and the world in which the story takes place, everything manages to fit the story.
With a spark of sexual heat, a budding romance, and a tough-cop heroine, Tiffany Allee creates a well balanced, highly engaging story. In Banshee Charmer, a large part of the paranormal story line revolves around succubus’ and incubus’, giving the story a touch of heat. Even though the beings are sexual in nature, this aspect is not overdone, it’s just right.
A key description for Banshee Charmer is balance. The action matches the characters and the setting, the romance matches the story line and the characters personalities, and the outcome is fitting and satisfying. I would definitely like to read more by Tiffany Allee, I really enjoyed Banshee Charmer and I would love to read more about the Underworld Enforcement Agency. Banshee Charmer is the first novella in a 4 part series, and I am looking forward to reading the future installments. I would recommend Banshee Charmer to readers who enjoy Urban Fantasy, Paranormal, and Romantic Suspense.
