Our journey began in fire…
Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness—beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I’d never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily…
Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other’s most private wounds… and desires.
The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn’t tear us apart..
My Review:
Gideon is a powerful, wealthy man used to getting what he wants with no questions asked. Eva is a woman determined to lead a successful, healthy life on her own terms. When Gideon feels a strong attraction to Eva, he wants her at any cost, even if that cost is his carefully pieced together life…
Talk about a dysfunctional relationship…. I have to admit that I was completely absorbed in this book, despite the fact that I normally do not like hot and cold relationships. Gideon and Eva are both victims of abuse, and when they find they are inexplicably drawn to each other, their relationship proves tumultuous, powerful, frustrating, and beautiful all at the same time. While they both have managed to recover and be successful adults (individually), the relationship status throws each of them completely out of their element, and they both find that they are not as recovered as they would have thought. Gideon is a very dominant male, he likes control and power. Eva is the opposite, she is terrified of losing control. However, Gideon’s control and powerful ways melt away some of the harsh memories for Eva, and she finds herself opening up more and more, which terrifies her. The results are a very rocky relationship, neither knowing what to do or how to cope.
As I said, normally I do not like hot and cold romances. However, in this case, there are REAL justifications behind the off and on again changes. As I got to know the characters, I understood why they acted the way they did, and why they were so afraid of love. On one hand, you want them to work their issues out, but on the other, you hope that they don’t hurt each other even more by trying to make it work. Either way, the result is an enthralling story that I did not want to put down.
Sylvia Day does such an excellent job detailing the dynamics of this relationship, there is no way the story can be told in just one book. But still, I was very surprised when the book ended, I was simply not ready to quit reading. It was the type of ending that had me searching through the e-book, looking for more and sighing when I realized that I would have to wait for book 2. The ending is not really a cliff-hanger, but the story is far from over. So, readers be prepared to be left wanting and itching to discuss everything that you have read.
Bared to You is not a happy, whimsical romance story. This is a story about a relationship with a gritty, rocky road to romance, high on sexual content, and so enthralling readers won’t want to put it down. I have to issue a warning, as the characters are victims of abuse, some readers may be sensitive to the content. Also, the sexual content is graphic and not appropriate for readers under 18. With that said, if you are a reader who likes gritty, erotic romances, you will really like this book. I recommend this book to fans of dark, erotic novels.
