Blurb from Goodreads:

WITH THE DEVIL IN CHARGE…THERE WILL BE HELL TO PAY… What happens when a struggling actress and a grieving widower come together in a night of unbridled debauchery orchestrated by a bored and machinating rake?

She’s a lonely lady down on her luck…
Phoebe Scott, alias Kitty Willis, is a struggling Covent Garden actress with a bruised heart and a closely guarded secret.

He’s steadfast and eminently respectable
Sir Edward Chambers, Ned to his intimates, is guilt-ridden over his beloved wife’s death and avowed to live out a rustic and mundane life … of celibacy.

With the devil in charge — there will surely be hell to pay. Devil in disguise, Viscount Ludovic DeVere, is determined to return his best friend, Ned, to the land of the living. His meddling machinations result in a night of mind blowing passion after which “dull dog Ned” awakes to find himself in the King of England’s bed!

A WILD NIGHT’S BRIDE, a sexy, rollicking Georgian romp!

My Review:

A Wild Night’s Bride is a fun, passionate, quick read about a man who finally moves on from his past and a woman who stops hiding from hers.  After one Wild Night, they come together and find happiness.

Actress Phoebe Scott is in need of a protector to keep a roof over her head and to move up the ranks as an actress.  The theater is closing and time is not on her side.  Sir Edward Chambers, Ned, has spent 3 years mourning his deceased wife and has forgotten to live in the moment.  Viscount DeVere, also known as the Devil DeVere, steps in to help his friend Ned out of his slump, and he sees Phoebe as the perfect tool to wake Ned up.  After a sensual party, lots of drinks, and an audacious bet, Ned and Phoebe’s lives will never be the same.

I really enjoyed this quick read.  A Wild Night’s Bride is a novella, but it is a full, fun story.  I enjoyed all of the characters, even the scoundrel DeVere.  DeVere is a reckless, live-in-the-moment-to-excess kind of man and he gets away with it because he is a Viscount with money.  He is very loyal to his friend Ned though and his antics are funny and highly entertaining.  As for Ned, I felt for him.  He is a man who was dedicated to his wife and unsure how to move on from her death.  He has a bit of guilt and regret stopping him from moving on, but he is an upstanding Gentleman.  I really liked Phoebe’s character as well.  She is a woman without a lot of options.  She is trying to keep her own past hidden, she was taken advantage of and ruined and her only recourse is to make it as an actress.  When she meets Ned, in an unlikely place, she has high hopes that he will be able to help her.  She gets much more than she bargained for.

A Wild Night’s Bride is a story that proves to be very well-developed and is also well-written.  Victoria Vane crafted a delightful story full of romance and humor in a Georgian England setting.  I was engaged in the story the whole way through.  A Wild Night’s Bride is the first release in the Devil DeVere series, and I know that I will be looking forward to reading about what trouble DeVere gets into next.
