Shana Galen is here today! Shana Galen is a historical romance author and recently released When You Give A Duke a Diamond, the first book in the Jewels of the Ton series. I loved this book (I am partial to diamonds afterall
) and I rated it 5 stars! (Read my review) Help me welcome Shana to the blog:
BSB: Hi Shana, thank you for interviewing at Book Savvy Babe! Your new book is When You Give a Duke a Diamond. Can you tell us a little bit about the book?
SG: Thank you so much for hosting me today!
When You Give a Duke a Diamond is the first in a series about three glittering Regency-era courtesans. They’re the celebrities of their day, but Juliette, the heroine in this first novel is getting a bit tired of it all. She wants a husband and a family. What she does not want is a criminal breaking into her house and threatening her or to be publicly snubbed by the powerful Duke of Pelham. It’s a novel with a lot of adventure and intrigue, and it’s about two people who seem all wrong for one another, but who find out they might just be perfect together.
BSB: Something that I really loved in When You Give a Duke a Diamond is the nickname for the 3 courtesans. If you had a nickname for yourself, what would it be?
SG: I do have a nickname on the Peanut Butter on the Keyboard blog. It’s Multitasking Mommy. That’s definitely me.
BSB: Since Diamonds play a part in the book; let’s talk diamonds
If you walked into a jewelry store and could pick any piece of diamond jewelry, what would you pick and why?
SG: Oh, I think it would have to be a delicate bracelet or a pair of simple but pretty diamond earrings. I don’t wear a lot of jewelry, but I like bracelets and earrings.
BSB: I had the opportunity to read When You give a Duke a Diamond and loved it. There is set up for future books, and I was wondering if you could tell us a little bit about the Jewels of the Ton series. How many books will there be and which characters will be featured in the next book?
SG: Of course! There will be three books total, and the next one features Fallon and Warrick, who are both introduced in When You Give a Duke a Diamond. It will be out in March 2013, and it’s titled If You Give a Rake a Ruby. It picks up right where When You Give a Duke a Diamond leaves off. The last book will be out in spring 2014 and will feature Lily. I’m not saying much more!
BSB: You write historical romance and some contemporary romance, have you ever considered writing other genres? Why or why not?
SG: Yes, absolutely. I have a proposal for a contemporary Young Adult on an editor’s desk right now. As a former middle and high school teacher, I’d love to write a YA. I’m never going to stop writing historicals, but it’s nice to mix it up once in a while.
BSB: As a writer, I am going to assume that you are also a reader. What are some of your favorite books and authors to read?
SG: I vastly prefer fiction, and I mostly read romance. I enjoy Marsha Canham, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Nora Roberts, and Joanna Bourne. I loved The Hunger Games and The Selection, two recent YA books.
Just for Fun: A quick game of Would You Rather:
Would You Rather: be ruled exclusively by your heart or exclusively by your mind?
SG: By my mind. I would rather be logical than too emotional.
Would You Rather: be faced with an attacking grizzly bear or an attacking tiger shark?
SG: I think a grizzly bear. I feel much more comfortable on land.
Thank you again Shana, I can’t wait to read the stories of the other Jewels!
SG: Thank you for having me!

Praise for Shana Galen:
“Galen pulls out all the stops…will leave readers breathless and highly satisfied.” —RT Book Reviews
He had a perfectly orderly life…
William, the sixth Duke of Pelham, enjoys his punctual. securely structured life. Orderly and predictable—that’s the way he likes it. But he’s in the public eye, and the scandal sheets will make up anything to sell papers. When the gossips link him to Juliette, one of the most beautiful and celebrated courtesans in London, chaos doesn’t begin to describe what happens next…
Until She Came Along
Juliette is nicknamed the Duchess of Dalliance, and has the cream of the nobility at her beck and call. It’s seriously disruptive to have the duke who’s the biggest catch on the Marriage Mart scaring her other suitors away. Then she discovers William’s darkest secret and decides what he needs in his life is the kind of excitement only she can provide…

I would get a bracelet for sure. I have this on book, series on my wishlist after reading your review and I am excited by the chance to win it. I think it is awesome that Shana is going to write in mult genres. I love to read many types of genres, but historical romance will always be my go to genre.

September 13, 2012 at 9:05 am
I don’t wear much jewelry either, but I would pick out a ring or a lapel pin with a ruby, diamond and emerald all in a row. I love all of these gems.
September 13, 2012 at 9:57 am
That sounds really pretty, Julie. Not enough people wear pins anymore.

Barbara, I think diamond posts are very classy. Christmas is coming…
September 13, 2012 at 10:35 pm
A ring or a necklace, because those would be the items I would most likely wear. Heck, I wear rings 24/7, so I’d pick a ring first.

September 14, 2012 at 9:33 am
Emily, I used to wear rings all the time, but when i had a newborn and was changing diapers I stopped because I didn’t want to scratch her. As she gets older, I’m wearing them more again.
September 14, 2012 at 9:48 am
I would either pick a necklace or a bracelet…my hands swell too much for rings and I hardly ever where earrings anymore.
September 18, 2012 at 9:48 am
June, I don’t like to wear rings because I scratch my daughter. I’d probably go with a bracelet.
