Born of Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Publisher: St. Martin’s Paperbacks
This book is Book 1 in the series, The League, by Sherrilyn Kenyon. This book is a sci-fi/fantasy book, so it was quite different from my usual paranormal romance/ urban fantasy. I never quite know what to expect from strictly sci-fi books, but Sherrilyn Kenyon is an excellent writer and this book had great reviews, and I found it at the library. So, I gave it a go, and happily, I was not disappointed.
Born of Night takes place in s futuristic space-world. The main transport is space planes and the locations are on different planets. There are human races, as well as alien races, and it all works together. I love Nykyrian. He is a tortured soul, hard edges with a compassionate core. Kiara, I have to admit, made me mad quite a lot. She was just so naive, for most of the book, which was pretty long, therefore more time for Kiara to get on my nerves with her sheltered self. However, as Kiara began to understand more than her sheltered existence, she adjusted her views and trusted Nykyrian more. I always love books where the characters grown and change. In this book, Nykyrian changes so much, it’s almost shocking. I really did enjoy this book and I am very much looking forward to read the rest of this series.
If anyone else is looking to branch out genres, this book is a good opening into science fiction, in my opinion. It’s not so far out there to be off-putting, and the story is well developed and written.

I really loved Born of Night. I think it's my favorite in the League series, followed closely by Born of Fire.
