Saturday Snapshot is hosted by At Home With Books. To participate in the Saturday Snapshot meme post a photo that you (or a friend or family member) have taken then leave a direct link to your post in the Mister Linky (at At Home With Books). Photos can be old or new, and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. Please don’t post random photos that you find online.
Last week I shared a few of my Hawaii pictures, the really pretty ones of the Stone Dam on Kauai and the hike to get there (see pics). This week, I have a few other shots to share. These are a little more random. The first picture is actually from the Stone Dam area, but it didn’t quite fit with the others…
When I saw this rope swing in the Stone Dam area, my exact thoughts were “That is the best rope swing ever!” We had just walked 2.5 miles to get to the Dam, and I was actually very tempted to swing away and go for a swim. But I was in hiking clothes, had no towel, and the thought of having to walk 2.5 miles back to my sister’s car sopping wet kept me from diving in… And it was a public place, no stripping down to the skivvies either… So, I satisfied myself with the picture and told myself that next time I’m wearing a swimsuit and bringing a towel…and a picnic, and a book, and maybe a tent… Anyhow, the swing itself is a little hard to see, but I think it’s still a cool picture.
My second picture… here’s where the random comes in. So, in Hanalei every Saturday morning is the farmer’s market. Local farmers and a few merchants set up shop and sell their wares. I was meandering around, tasting fruits and goat cheese with my sister when I saw this Jackfruit and decided that it is definitely the biggest fruit I have ever seen (Look at it, it fills that entire bin!). According to Wikipedia, it IS the largest tree-born fruit and supposedly tastes like a tart banana…hmmm… Maybe one day I will buy one and do a taste test, but for this trip I was happy to ogle.
Thanks for stopping by Book Savvy Babe today. I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend!

LOVE the rope swing and your story of how badly you wanted to swing on it, lol. And I don’t know about jackfruit…”tart banana” sounds very strange! But you never know, maybe it’s delicious.

The jackfruit look like some kind of weird sea creature!!

Ew – that jackfruit looks bizarre. BUT oh my gosh, your shot of the swing is almost iconic. I really think it captures a time of innocence, anyway I just love it.

Both shots are wonderful! I love the setting where the rope swing is…and can picture a picnic nearby.
I’ve never seen Jackfruit “in person.” Thanks for sharing!

Love that first photo, the scenery looks so beautiful. But I’ve never heard of jackfruit, and I’m not sure it sounds very appetising! My Snapshot is at http://goo.gl/xybNM

That swing looks very inviting! I love the reflection on the water. I’ve never heard of a jackfruit but now I’m very curious about them.

That rope swing does look like fun! When we were in Hawaii we stopped by a fruit stand and bought samples of a bunch of different fruits. The only two that we bought but didn’t try were the cashew pepper and the jack fruit. We smelled both of them and chickened out because the smells (and texture of the jackfruit) were just too weird.

I’m with you! I would definitely love to try the swing out and go for a swim. I’ve heard of jackfruit, but I’ve never actually seen one…very odd looking fruit indeed.
Here’s my Snapshot.

do you just cut it open & eat the inside? There’s so many new fruits that are popping up but I’m not sure how to prepare or eat them.

I’ve never heard of Jackfruit. You must taste it and enlighten the rest of us. I like the rope swing picture, the reflection in the water. Here’s Mine

2 temptations: one is cool and one is sweet. Please don’t miss them next time.
Jackfruit is one of the sweetest tropical fruits. The fruit inside is like a tulip with layers of petals and with a big seed (pit). The pit is edible after it’s boiled.
