Saturday Snapshot is hosted by At Home With Books.  To participate in the Saturday Snapshot meme post a photo that you (or a friend or family member) have taken then leave a direct link to your post in the Mister Linky (at At Home With Books). Photos can be old or new, and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. Please don’t post random photos that you find online.

It has been super hot these past few weeks (over 100 degree weather), and as a result my backyard is currently over-run by bees.  TONS of bees.  They show up early in the morning and hang around pretty late in the evening.  The bees make it tough to take my kids outside, there are just so many bees, one of my kids is bound to get stung.

Part of why the bees love my backyard is the pool.  There is a lovely ledge for them between the pool and the hot-tub and during peak afternoon hours they swarm the ledge….

Bees take over my pool

Something I learned is that when Palm Trees bloom, the bees come.  So, I have two palm trees that are blooming, and between them I have even more bees… ugh

The black dots are the bees

My husband has *big plans* to go outside really early one morning and saw down those branches.  We’ll see how that goes… Meanwhile, if anyone had tips on how to keep the bees away, I will try anything at this point…

Hope you are having a great weekend, and I am looking forward to seeing your Saturday Snapshots!

  1. eek..hope your hubby survives his encounter.

  2. Enjoyed looking at the photographs!

Here is my Saturday Snapshot post!

  3. You do seem to have a lot of bees, but the palm trees are glorious – I had no idea they had such wonderful blooms.

  4. So sorry to hear about your bee problem…is there a hive nearby that can be removed?

    • we have looked for the hive, but we can’t find it. It’s likely somewhere random on the mountain behind my house

  5. Wow, that is a lot of bees! We have some traps to catch hornets, which sometimes give us problems, but I don’t really know anything about catching regular bees.

  6. Love the shot of the tree. Beautiful flowers. I wouldn’t mind them in the tree but I would draw the line at sharing the hot tub with them. Good luck! Here’s my photo:http://barbarathehealthynut.blogspot.com/2012/08/raindrops-and-roses.html

  7. Bees are scary although a necessary part of a productive garden. Have you ever seen the blossoms pop out of the pods on the palm tree? I happened to be in the garden one time to see and hear the palm tree in my backyard. It was a satisfying and curious ripping, whooshing, unfurling sound.

    • I don’t hear much over the buzz of the bees… I am okay with bees, but there are just so many of them and I have two little boys that love to play outside. I don’t want to find out about a bee sting allergy the hard way

  8. How extraordinary.
