Welcome to week 3 of Series Spotlight, Chicagoland Vampires Series. This week, I am going to share a little bit about books 2 and 3 in the series, Friday Night Bites and Twice Bitten.  This post is attached to my monthly giveaway, the information on the giveaway is on the bottom of the post.

Book 2 in the series, by Chloe Neill, is Friday Night Bites.  Here is the blurb from goodreads:
The story of a young heiress’s initiation into the dark society of the Chicagoland Vampires continues…

Ten months after vampires revealed their existence to the mortals of Chicago, they’re enjoying a celebrity status usually reserved for the Hollywood elite. But should people learn about the Raves-mass feeding parties where vampires round up humans like cattle-the citizens will start sharpening their stakes.

So now it’s up to the new vampire Merit to reconnect with her upper class family and act as liaison between humans and bloodsuckers, and keep the more unsavory aspects of the vampire lifestyle out of the media. But someone doesn’t want peace between them-someone with an ancient grudge..

My quickie thoughts:
I rated Friday Night Bites **** 4 of 5 stars.  Book 2 is not my favorite installment in the series.  In this one, Merit is adjusting to being the sentinel ( a type of guard) of her house of vampires, Cadogen House.  Merit and Ethan partner up to investigate raves, parties where vampires gather to drink from humans.  There is blackmail involved, pretty clothes, Morgan tries to woo Merit, and there is the typical Merit and Ethan sexual tension.  However, Merit has a tough time in Friday Night Bites, her relationship with Mallory is strained, and Morgan is a whole different issue.  This installment is quite good, but not really my favorite.

Book 3, this is my favorite so far, Twice Bitten. Here is the blurb from Goodreads:
Shapeshifters from across the country are convening in the Windy City, and as a gesture of peace, Master Vampire Ethan Sullivan has offered their leader a very special bodyguard: Merit, Chicago’s newest vampire. Merit is supposed to protect the Alpha, Gabriel Keene-and to spy for the vamps while she’s at it. Oh, and luckily Ethan’s offering some steamy, one-on-one combat training sessions to help her prepare for the mission.

Unfortunately, someone is gunning for Gabriel, and Merit soon finds herself in the line of fire. She’ll need all the help she can get to track down the would-be assassin, but everywhere she turns, there are rising tensions between supernaturals-not least between her and a certain green-eyed, centuries-old master vampire.

My quickie thoughts:
I rated Twice Bitten ***** 5 of 5 stars.  This is my favorite book of the series.  In this installment, the shifters come to town and ask Merit and Ethan to be security for Gabriel, the pack alpha.  The relationship between Ethan and Merit goes through serious ups and downs in this book, it is emotional and very special.  Merit is on new standing as a vampire, she really comes into her own, and earns serious respect.  Her character really grows, and the shifters give the book a whole new feel.  Yep, this book is one you can’t miss.

Next week, I will have my review of Hard Bitten up, and maybe some polls.  Hard Bitten has had serious buzz since it’s release.  I wanted to let my feelings about the book sink in before I wrote the review.  As it is, I am re-reading the book this week, so don’t miss my thoughts on Hard Bitten next week.

  2. Twice Bitten is my favorite also! I love the growth that we see from Merit in each book, and that even though she's becoming stronger as a vampire, she's not losing her humanity. And I love seeing the changes in Ethan as well :)
